A 15 Year Old Asks: Who Is Writing The Future?

Youth are the mirror image of humanity. You might ask why? What is so special about this period of a person’s life that sets it apart from any other? 

Youth reflect the stage of development of humanity as a whole. The years of adolescence are characterised by a sudden release of a huge amount of energy, ability and potential.

Endowed with such power, a youth can do great harm to oneself and others, or be the source of great service.

Similarly, humanity at its present stage of development, due to rapid scientific discovery, can make fundamental positive changes or destroy itself completely.

Creative, energetic, better connected than any other age group through the internet and other media, youth have the potential to be the true global citizens capable ofaddressing the global issues that face humanity today.

My vision for the youth of today is for them not to be like their parents. Surprised? Let me explain. What I am saying is not about the past generations being inferior to my generation.

My generation has so many unprecedented possibilities at its disposal thanks to the hard work and sacrifice of the past generations. 

However, our parents are also the products of an age marked by local, national and regional divisions and interests.

Despite being well intended and justice oriented, they have proven not fully equipped to handle the global problems that humanity faces today.

What Youth Can Do To Spark Change

Youth out there need to be active in their communities and get their friends involved as well. Start a project in your community, be it a garden, cleaning or fundraising project.

Gather everyone, forge new friendships and make a positive difference in your environment. If enough youth all over the world put their; energy, skills and creativity into action we will already see a significant improvement all over the world.

At the same time, these future leaders can enhance and direct their potential through such projects and prepare themselves to be the global thinkers of the future.

We, youth, must not forget that we hold humanity’s future in our hands.
